Wind energy is a renewable energy which produces no harmful emissions or waste products, ensuring protection for the environment.
The UK has 40% of the total European wind resource – an untapped potential, in theory sufficient to meet double the country’s electricity requirements.
Each unit of electricity generated from the wind displaces one produced by a power station burning fossil fuel, with an associated saving of 860 grams of CO2.
Wind farms are already generating electricity more cheaply than new nuclear power. With the cost of wind-generated energy falling and the cost of gas rising, wind-generated electricity is also challenging gas for the lowest cost power source.
